Pepper
Pepper, also known by the Latin name Piper albi linn, is a plant that is rich in pepper oil, fatty oil and starch. Pepper has a slightly bitter, spicy, warm taste and can be used as an antipyretic. Pepper has long been a leading commodity from Indonesia. South Sulawesi is the third largest pepper producing area in Indonesia after Bangka Belitung and Lampung. East Luwu Regency and Sinjai Regency became the largest contributors in South Sulawesi, making them selected as districts for the development of the national pepper area in South Sulawesi. The total pepper production in East Luwu reaches 4,000 tons per year. Pepper in South Sulawesi, especially East Luwu, has a different feature compared to pepper from other regions in Indonesia, since it has a distinctive, spicier taste because of the higher pepperin content. In addition, the pepper varieties in this area have the advantage of being able to survive from root rot disease (BPB). This makes pepper in East Luwu called the leading commodity of Indonesia's future.
