Porang (Amorphophallus muelleri)
Porang plants contain carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, vitamins, and dietary fiber. Along with the increasing demand in the global market, South Sulawesi is aggressively developing porang plants. The porang plant is processed into Shirataki rice, which is high in fiber but low in carbohydrates. The price of Shirataki rice is quite competitive, reaching Rp. 100,000/kg. Meanwhile, porang centers in South Sulawesi are located in ten regencies, namely Bone, Soppeng, Wajo, Pinrang, Sidrap, Luwu, North Luwu, East Luwu, Sinjai, and Bulukumba. Currently, the processed porang plants are exported to Japan, China and South Korea.
