Crab (Portunus sanguinolentus)
Besides mangrove crabs, South Sulawesi is also known as a crab (Portunus sanguinolentus)-producing area. In the island and coastal areas of Pangkep Regency in South Sulawesi, these crabs are popular as the main source of income for fishermen. It is a commodity having a high value in local and international markets. With a volume of 10,000 tons per year in 2018, frozen crabs are exported to various countries, mainly China and Australia.
