Seaweed
South Sulawesi is the largest producer of seaweed in Indonesia. South Sulawesi produces more than a third of Indonesia's seaweed supply with production reaching 3.29 million tons/year or 32% of the national supply and 11% of the global supply. Seaweed developed in South Sulawesi consists of seaweed cultivated in the sea, such as Eucheuma cottonii and Spinosium sp and seaweed cultivated in ponds, namely Gracilaria sp. In general, seaweed in South Sulawesi is processed into various products such as dried seaweed, carrageenan and seaweed flour. Meanwhile, the destination countries for seaweed exports from South Sulawesi among others are China and the United States. Currently, there is an increasing trend in global demand for seaweed derivative products, so this commodity is very likely to be developed.
