South Sulawesi's Exports Reach 16.19 Trillion Rupiah in 10 Months

MAKASSAR - The Provincial Government of South Sulawesi continues to strive for economic recovery in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. One of them is by increasing and developing exports.

Evidently, under the leadership of Andi Sudirman Sulaiman as Acting Governor, South Sulawesi's exports were able to increase to a value of US$ 1,140.43 million or equivalent to IDR 16.19 trillion (exchange rate of IDR 14,200) for the period January-October 2021 (BPS data).

The increase in exports also had an impact on the South Sulawesi economy. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of South Sulawesi, it is said that the economic growth of South Sulawesi Province in the third quarter of 2021 grew by 3.24%.

When compared to previous 2020, South Sulawesi's exports grew by 14.45%. Meanwhile, the trade balance from January to October 2021 experienced a surplus of US$ 558.9 million (IDR 7.93 trillion), an increase from 2020 which also experienced a surplus of US$ 399.19 million (IDR 5.66 trillion).

As for the 133 commodities exported from South Sulawesi, the 10 main commodities in the January-October 2021 period are nickel, seaweed, carragenan, fresh shrimp, cocoa liquor, peeled cashew, cocoa beans, fish eggs, clinker, processed fish.

Meanwhile, the 10 main export destinations for South Sulawesi for the January-October 2021 period are Japan, China, the United States, Malaysia, Korea, Russia, the Netherlands, Germany, India, the Philippines.

Head of the South Sulawesi Trade Office, Ashari F. Radjamilo said, "commodities and products that contributed to exports for the January-October 2021 period, namely from the mining sector 63.01 percent, the agriculture and fisheries sector contributed 19.27%, and the industrial sector 17.72%. , " he explained.

When viewed since Andi Sudirman Sulaiman as Acting Governor in March 2021, exports in South Sulawesi have also experienced growth. "In the March-October 2021 period, South Sulawesi's exports grew by 15.75 percent, with a total export value of US$ 957.61 million or equivalent to IDR 13.59 trillion," he said.

He also conveyed several plans to increase exports. "Several development steps have been taken, including; facilitating the export of Makassar direct flights to Hong Kong, Makassar direct flights to Singapore, exporting direct call Makassar sea lanes to Shanghai China, and building cargo consolidation facilities (Dry Port) in Sidrap and Jeneponto districts. " he explained. The Trade Office of South Sulawesi Province, he said, in collaboration with the Indonesian Export Training and Education Center of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia has implemented an Export Coaching Program for 30 South Sulawesi export-oriented SMEs.

"Expanding of export commodities is also carried out, as well as expanding export destination countries, and optimization of exports to trading partner countries that establish FTA trade cooperation with the Government of Indonesia," he said.

Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of South Sulawesi, Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, hopes that this increase in exports can have an impact on improving the people's economy.

"This is one of the efforts to recover the economy, which also has an impact on the income of our people. We continue to push for an increase in exports, especially in the agricultural and fishery sectors which are the main commodities of our region," he concluded.(***)
