North Luwu Regency Is one of the regencies of South Sulawesi Province which located exactly at the center (heart) of Sulawesi Island, Advantageous position along with fertile soil of Luwu Utara regency making It a potential sustainer of food for 4 (four) surrounding provinces namely South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi, potentially in the future It might be able to sustain food needs for the new Capital of Indonesia in Kalimantan Timur.
Palm is one of Its prominent potential and advantages of North Luwu Regency. The potential for oil palm plantations in North Luwu where 21,470 hectares of land Is available along with the production of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) in 2020 of 386.076 tons. In addition, there are 4 (four) units of palm oil mills in the North producing 45,347,266 tons of Crude Palm Oil (CPO). Desa Munte Kecamatan Tanalili was selected as the oil mill location due to several considerations such as the presence of harbor, support from the local communities, absence of Industrial estate, its distance from the city center, and other Infrastructure support. The multiplier effect is expected to be a result of the realization of the development of the palm oil industry which includes job field creation, price Increase of palm oil which benefitted farmers, developing MSMEs, and the regional economy.
